Walkthrough: Ghoul School

Introduction

Welcome to my Ghoul School Walkthrough, presented in 104 easy steps! This walkthrough covers my preferred path through the game, collecting all items along the way for 100% completion.

I decided to take a step-by-step approach. Each step will contain the current room number, followed by the direction to the next room, and optionally followed by any special information about the current room. It should be pretty simple to follow.

One important thing to know is that if all 5 lives are lost for Game Over, when you restart the game you will start back at Room 1 but you get to keep all of your items. The game layout is pretty confusing and it’s not obvious how to get back to where you were when you died aside from completely retracing your steps. This is a flaw in the walkthrough that I don’t have a solution for at this time.

I used the game manual for all the enemy names. Here is a link to the PDF copy of the manual to accompany this walkthrough.

 

Walkthrough

#1 – Room 1

Go right and exit right to Room 4.

The doors in the hallways generally don’t lead to anything special. Most of the time they are simple classrooms with a variety of enemies and either green apple or red apple on the far right. Green apples give two bars of health but red apples restore all health, so those are sometimes useful. I will mention rooms that have a red apples along the way.

This is a good area to get used to fighting enemies with the very short range bat.

 

#2 – Room 4

Go up the stairs and the right end of the hall to reach Room 7. Just run right through this room!

 

#3 – Room 7

Go down the stairs at the right end of the hall to reach Room 13.

There is an Optik right at the entrance to this room that has a bad habit of knocking you back to Room 4. Take your time and kill him before moving on and don’t get discouraged if it takes several tries.

The second door leads to Room 59 which contains a red apple. Try to stay on top of the desk to avoid the pesky Blinky. You will need to destroy the TV at the far right of the room with your bat to reveal the red apple. All the red apple rooms require destroying the TV but they will have different enemy layouts. If you decide to get the apple, backtrack to Room 7 and continue on.

 

#4 – Room 13

Go down the stairs just below to reach Room 9.

The Optik here can knock you down there which is probably easier than taking the stairs!

 

#5 – Room 9

Go right to reach Room 14.

You can go left in Room 9 and the first door leads to Room 77 containing a red apple.

 

#6 – Room 14

Go into the door at the right end of the hall to reach Room 92.

 

#7 – Room 92 – Lockers

Go into the door on the right to reach Room 93.

Jump up on top of the lockers and grab the Towel off of the bell. The Towel will be equipped automatically. Use it to take out Frankenstein’s Monster. Take your time going through the showers because the water will knock you back.

 

#8 – Room 93 – Gym

Go into the door on the right to reach Room 94.

The Slam Dunks cannot be destroyed so just move ahead.

 

#9 – Room 94 – Weight Room

Go into the door on the right to reach Room 95.

Drop into the large exercise machine in the middle of the room. Walk right to drop to floor level, then walk left to collect the blue Spring Shoes. Use the shoes to escape the exercise machine and continue to the right. The Spring Shoes give the additional jump height needed to reach the door.

 

#10 – Room 95 – Gym

Collect the Deweytron and backtrack two rooms to Room 93. Or take the shortcut explained below!

Do not touch the dead zombie below the table in this room or it will damage you greatly. You can climb the rungs at the end of the hall to reach the ledge containing the Deweytron. Collect the gun. If you have the Spring Shoes on you can jump over the wall to the right which will drop you off on the left side of Room 93. A handy shortcut!

 

#11 – Room 93 – Gym

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 92

 

#12 – Room 92 – Lockers

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 14.

 

#13 – Room 14

Exit on the left to go to Room 9

 

#14 – Room 9

Go up the stairs to go to Room 13.

You can also hit Room 77 through the door on the left to get the Red Apple if skipped earlier.

 

#15 – Room 13

Exit up the stairs on the right to go to Room 29.

This begins a brief side path to collect a weapon that will help out greatly.

The Towel is better suited to defeat the Optik here if he wasn’t killed earlier.

 

#16 – Room 29

Go up the stairs on the right to go to Room 30.

Equip the Spring Shoes to jump over the boxes in this room.

 

#17 – Room 30

Go into the first door to reach Room 96.

Immediately upon entering this room, equip the Deweytron to take out the Blinky waiting for you. Get by the remaining Blinkies as best as you can because they are very annoying.

 

#18 – Room 96 – Nurse

Collect the Spinal Zap and go back to Room 30.

The Deweytron is safer to use here but it takes a long time to kill the enemies. The Towel is much stronger but riskier. The Spinal Zap is located on the bookcase at the far right of the room. I use the Spinal Zap most of the time for the rest of the game. It has virtually no range but it takes out many enemies in one hit.

 

#19 – Room 30

Exit down the stairs on the left to go to Room 29.

 

#20 – Room 29

Exit down the stairs on the left to go to Room 13.

 

#21 – Room 13

Go up the stairs on the left to go to Room 7.

 

#22 – Room 7

Exit on the right to go to Room 12.

Heading left instead, the first door leads to Room 59 containing a Red Apple if skipped earlier.

 

#23 – Room 12

Go up the stairs on the right to go to Room 16.

Equip the Spring Shoes here to jump over the boxes in the way.

 

#24 – Room 16

Exit down the stairs on the right to go to Room 19.

Equip the Deweytron immediately so you can take out the Blinky here. You will have to push your way through this room with another Blinky in the way.

 

#25 – Room 17

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 21.

You can get the Blinky to run right at you and fall down the stairs making it much easier to go to the next room.

The second door in this room leads to Room 64 and a Red Apple.

 

#26 – Room 21

Enter the door on the far right to go to Room 103.

There is a locked door in this room that will come into play later on!

 

#27 – Room 103 – Library

Go into the door on the far right to go to Room 104.

 

#28 – Room 104 – Library

Collect the Digestaray and go back to Room 103.

Equip the Deweytron to take out the Par Le Boo. Grab the Digestaray off of the bookcase in the far right of the room. This weapon arcs downward which will help take care of those annoying Blinkies!

 

#29 – Room 103 – Library

Go into the door on the left to go to Room 21.

 

#30 – Room 21

Go up the stairs at the left end of the hall to go to Room 17.

 

#31 – Room 17

Go right to go to Room 19.

 

#32 – Room 19

Go up the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 23.

 

#33 – Room 23

Go down the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 26.

Equip the Spinal Zap to take care of the Moss Top.

 

#34 – Room 26

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 27.

The Optik here can easily knock you back up to Room 23. Wait for an opening and use the Spinal Zap.

 

#35 – Room 27

Exit on the left to go to Room 28.

The second door leads to Room 74 and a Red Apple if desired.

The Spinal Zap works well for quick kills here.

 

#36 – Room 28

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 100.

 

#37 – Room 100 – Office

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 99.

 

#38 – Room 99 – Office

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 98.

There is a clock in the middle of the room that needs to be destroyed with the Bat to unlock something later on. It can be tricky to make contact with but it will break apart when you hit it correctly.

 

#39 – Room 98 – Office

Collect the Sickle and go back to Room 99.

The Grim Reaper shows up here. The Digestaray works best to defeat her. She will drop the Sickle when defeated. Now get ready for some backtracking.

 

#40 – Room 99 – Office

Enter the door on the right to go to Room 100

 

#41 – Room 100 – Office

Enter the door on the right to go to Room 28.

 

#42 – Room 28

Exit on the right to go to Room 27.

 

#43 – Room 27

Go up the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 26.

If skipped before, remember there is a Red Apple in the second door to Room 74.

 

#44 – Room 26

Go up the stairs above to go to Room 23.

 

#45 – Room 23

Go down the stairs on the left end of the hall to go to Room 19.

 

#46 – Room 19

Go to the right to go to Room 24.

 

#47 – Room 24

Go through the fourth door on the far right side of the room to go to Room 101.

Normally there is an enemy here that appears to be both impossible to defeat and impossible to skip, but with the clock broken in the office he is nowhere to be seen.

 

#48 – Room 101 – Cafeteria

Go through the door on the right to go to Room 102.

Pick up the Sandwich on the table and use it to defeat the Frankenstein’s Monster.

 

#49 – Room 102 – Cafeteria

Collect the Golden Apple and go back to Room 101.

This part is completely optional but the Golden Apple halves all damage received, so it is worth the journey. The Digestaray works well in this room. Grab the Golden Apple on the high shelf to the right. Time to do a lot of backtracking!

 

#50 – Room 101 – Cafeteria

Go through the door on the left to go to Room 24.

 

#51 – Room 24

Exit to the left to go to Room 19.

 

#52 – Room 19

Go up the stairs on the left end of the hall to go to Room 16.

 

#53 – Room 16

Go down the stairs on the left end of the hall to go to Room 12.

 

#54 – Room 12

Exit on the left to go to Room 7.

 

#55 – Room 7

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 13.

 

#56 – Room 13

Go up the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 29.

 

#57 – Room 29

Go down the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 31.

 

#58 – Room 31

Go down the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 33.

 

#59 – Room 33

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 34.

 

#60 – Room 34

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 35.

If you want, go into the last door on the left to go to Room 79 for a Red Apple.

 

#61 – Room 35

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 36.

 

#62 – Room 36

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 107.

Equip the Spring Shoes and the Digestaray because there are several Blinkies in this room. When you pass the crates, just fire away to hit them as soon as they come on screen. Otherwise they will be out of attack range and follow you around the entire room.

 

#63 – Room 107 – Auto Shop

Collect the Suction Cups and go back to Room 36.

Use the Sandwich here on the Grease Monkeys you can reach. To get underneath the car on the left, equip the sneakers. At the far left are the Suction Cups. Grab them and get out!

The Suction Cups let you walk on the ceiling! When equipped, hold up while jumping to flip upside-down and stick to the ceiling. This only works if the ceiling is low enough to reach with a jump.

 

#64 – Room 36

Go up the stairs at the end of the hall to go to Room 35.

Equip the Suction Cups to walk on the ceiling at the end of the room. Stand on the crates to get close enough for this to work.

 

#65 – Room 35

Go up the stairs above to go to Room 34.

 

#66 – Room 34

Go up the stairs above to go to Room 33.

Again, there is a Red Apple in Room 79 through the far left door.

 

#67 – Room 33

Go up the stairs above to go to Room 31.

 

#68 – Room 31

Go up the stairs on the left end of the hall to go to Room 29.

 

#69 – Room 29

Go up the stairs above to go to Room 30.

 

#70 – Room 30

Exit to the right to go to Room 37.

 

#71 – Room 37

Exit to the right to go to Room 38.

Use the Suction Cups to walk along the ceiling for the entire length of the room.

 

#72 – Room 38

Enter the door on the right to go to Room 97.

You should still be walking on the ceiling. Cleanser will be walking the floor. He can be defeated with any weapon, but if you attack Sweeps the broom will chase you and he is impossible to defeat as far as I’m concerned. So let’s bypass him completely. Run past Cleanser and drop down to the floor next to the door and enter it right away.

 

#73 – Room 97 – Music Room

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 105.

Use the Spinal Zap to take out both Bootoven and Note-Orious.

 

#74 – Room 105 – Music Room

Collect the Embalming Fluid and go back to Room 97

Use the Sickle to take care of the Boolips. The Embalming Fluid can be found on the top of the far left shelf.

 

#75 – Room 97 – Music Room

Enter the door on the right to go to Room 38.

Go ahead and equip the Spring Shoes before proceeding.

 

#76 – Room 38

Exit to the left to go to Room 37.

With the Spring Shoes equipped, jump over Cleanser and keep moving left.

 

#77 – Room 37

Exit to the left to go to Room 30.

Use the Suction Cups to cling to the ceiling and pass through the room without trouble.

 

#78 – Room 30

Go down the stairs at the left end of the hall to go to Room 29.

If you are still on the ceiling, continue to walk left directly to the next room.

 

#79 – Room 29

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 31.

 

#80 – Room 31

Go down the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 33.

 

#81 – Room 33

Defeat the Spine Tingler and board the elevator.

Use the Embalming Fluid to defeat the Putrids and use the Suction Cups to navigate this room. Past the boxes you will see Spine Tingler in front of the locked door. Defeat him with the Spinal Zap and now the elevator doors can be accessed throughout the school. Enter the door to board the elevator.

If you need health, continue right instead and enter the door to Room 78 where a Red Apple can be found.

 

#82 – Elevator

Go to the fifth floor to go to Room 91.

The elevator acts as a shortcut to different rooms in the school:

Floor 1: Room 33

Floor 2: Room 21

Floor 3: Room 26

Floor 4: Room 11

You will notice there are four floors, but there is actually a hidden fifth floor which is the correct path forward. Hold Up to point the needle to the fourth floor and continue to hold Up. The screen will shake for awhile and the needle will eventually point beyond the fourth floor. Get off here to go to Room 91.

 

#83 – Room 91 – Rooftop

Enter the door on the far left to go to Room 106.

Equip the Bat to break the spinning vent covers off of the roof vents because they will hurt you when touched. The next obstacle is a long gap. Use the Spring Shoes to make the large jump. To make the jump you need to be as far left as possible with full momentum and it takes practice to pull it off successfully. Continue left, equipping the Sneakers and the Bat to break another vent cover next to another gap. Jump up on top of the cleared off vent pipe, equip the Suction Cups, and walk upside-down along the flagpole to clear the gap. Enter the door to the next room.

 

#84 – Room 106 – Anatomy

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 39.

Funny Bones is hiding in the chart next to where you land. Defeat him quickly with the Spinal Zap. Further left is Bonehead who can also be defeated with the Spinal Zap.

 

#85 – Room 39

Enter the door on the ceiling to go to Room 84.

This room is to the left of the Medusa found at the very start of the game in Room 1! Head left to the crates and jump up to the ceiling with the Suction Cups. Head back to the right and enter the door from the edge of it. If you walk too close to the middle of the door, you will fall and need to get back to the ceiling and try again.

 

#86 – Room 84 – Crawl Space

Exit all the way on the right to go to Room 42.

This long room is a bit of a maze. There are six branching paths to the right. Take the paths in the following order: Lower, Upper, Lower, Upper, Upper, and Lower. If you miss one just backtrack and go the other way. Passing by the classrooms in the crawl space is a pretty neat touch.

 

#87 – Room 42 – Air Ducts

Enter the door to go to Room 43.

 

#88 – Room 43 – Air Ducts

Take the first door to the right to go to Room 46.

This is an awfully complicated maze. Hidden here is the Gamma Gun which is the most powerful weapon in the game. This walkthrough will take the path to the Gamma Gun first before moving on. I developed a few techniques that help clear this area. Equip the Sickle and the Suction Cups. There are Nibbles on the floor that I bypass completely by staying on the ceiling at all times. Spectres will float past and they can be defeated in a single hit with the Sickle.

 

#89 – Room 46 – Air Ducts

Take the first door to the left to go to Room 45.

 

#90 – Room 45 – Air Ducts

Take the second door to the right to go to Room 43.

 

#91 – Room 43 – Air Ducts

Collect the Gamma Gun and go back to Room 45.

The Gamma Gun will be found on the ground to the left. Keep this equipped as it also kills the Spectres in a single hit. Now we have every item in the game! Go back the way you came to Room 45 which is through the far right door on this floor.

 

#92 – Room 45 – Air Ducts

Take the second door to the left to go to Room 46.

 

#93 – Room 46 – Air Ducts

Take the first door to the right to go to Room 43.

 

#94 – Room 43 – Air Ducts

Take the second door to the left to go to Room 45.

 

#95 – Room 45 – Air Ducts

Take the first door to the right to go to Room 46.

 

#96 – Room 46 – Air Ducts

Take the second door to the left to go to Room 108.

 

#97 – Room 108 – Basement

Go down the stairs at the left end of the hall to go to Room 127.

 

#98 – Room 127 – Basement

Go down the stairs at the left end of the hall to go to Room 125.

 

#99 – Room 125 – Basement

Go down the stairs at the left end of the hall to go to Room 124.

Briefly equip the Sandwich to take out the Grease Monkey.

 

#100 – Room 124 – Basement

Go down the stairs below to go to Room 121.

 

#101 – Room 121 – Basement

Go up the stairs at the right end of the hall to go to Room 122.

The easiest way through this room is to use the Suction Cups as soon as you enter the room to walk on the ceiling. You can walk across directly to the next room this way.

 

#102 – Room 122 – Basement

Go up the stairs above to go to Room 123.

The Gamma Gun can take out the Blinky right away. There is a dead end to the right containing a Green Apple for a small health boost.

 

#103 – Room 123 – Basement

Enter the door on the left to go to Room 129.

Admiral Aorta guards this room. Most weapons are ineffective against him including the Gamma Gun. The Towel does the most damage, but the Embalming Fluid has better range and is safer to use. You can also stand on the pipe in the middle of the room to get a better angle with the Embalming Fluid.

 

#104 – Room 129 – Boiler Room

The final room awaits! King Cornea is vulnerable to all weapons, but I find the Gamma Gun works best. Equip the Spring Shoes and jump and shoot against the left side of the screen to take him out. After defeating him, use the Embalming Fluid on the barrier to Samantha. Jump down to meet her and complete Ghoul School!
